TMJ/TMD Therapy

Dr. Neslund and Dr. Benner pays close attention to all of your oral structures during routine exams, not just your teeth and gums. Jaw problems are far more common than you’d think, especially for people who have uneven bites or damaged tooth enamel. During your exam, Dr. Neslund or Dr. Benner will closely examine your jaw and the joints that attach it to the skull, known as the temporomandibular joints (TMJ.) These joints allow for complex movements of your jaw, but they can easily become overworked if your bite is uneven. Dr. Neslund and Dr. Benner can diagnose problems with your jaw and prescribe treatment that works for you. This includes occlusal adjustments and/or occlusal splints designed to remove this stress and reduce your symptoms, whether they be jaw pain, clicking and popping of the jaw, or chronic headaches.

Sleep Apnea Treatment

Obstructive sleep apnea is considered to be the most common form of sleep apnea to date, and dentists are in a unique position to help those suffering from the condition. Dr. Neslund and Dr. Benner can design and create oral appliances that remove obstructions from the oral cavity, effectively making it easier for patients to breathe throughout the night. During your consultation, we’ll take note of all your symptoms and determine if an oral appliance would be the best solution for you.

Intraoral Camera

Have you ever wondered exactly what your dentist sees during your exam? Not sure why you may need a filling, crown or other restoration/procedure? Our dental office utilizes the Acteon Sopro Care intraoral camera to capture detailed, close-up images of your teeth, gums and any other oral structures you may have questions about. These images are then displayed on a nearby monitor for easy viewing.

Digital X-Rays

Collecting X-rays of your oral structures was difficult and time-consuming in the past, which is why Carlisle Family & Cosmetic Dentistry has chosen to go fully digital for all of its X-ray needs. Not only can we capture detailed images of your underlying structures via the Nomad hand-held system, but we can do so with less radiation exposure in the process. Digital X-rays reduce radiation exposure by up to 80 percent, however, we will always provide the proper shielding as an extra precaution.

CT/Cone Beam

The more information we have about your oral structures, the better your diagnosis and treatment will be. The Galileos CT/Cone Beam scanner allows us to capture a 3D cross-section of your teeth, gums, jaw, and other essential structures. This type of scan is ideal for determining the exact source of potential jaw pain and planning for future dental implant placement. Plus, the scan takes less than a minute to complete and is available for quick viewing on a nearby monitor!

Digital Impression System

Have you ever had to bite into a chunk of gray, putty-like material just to have a crown or mouthguard fabricated? We understand that most people would avoid this step if they could, which is why we’re happy to offer a digital impression system from CEREC. This technology uses a handheld device that captures many detailed images of your teeth and gums in a matter of minutes, which are then displayed in CEREC’s software in the form of a 3D image.

Cavity Detection System

The sooner we can catch the early signs of cavities, the more likely we can prevent them from becoming full-blown cavities, which inevitably require fillings or crowns to resolve. The cavity detection system from Acteon Sopro is ideal for catching early signs of tooth enamel erosion, especially in young children who are more prone to tooth decay overall. It also allows us to reduce the number of X-rays needed, saving you time and radiation exposure.
